Dental Extractions

Man looking at dental professionalOur family dentist values the health of your smile. When possible, we’ll do everything within our capabilities to help you preserve your natural teeth. Unfortunately, that’s not always an option. If you have a tooth that is severely diseased or damaged, a dental extraction may be the best treatment.

Do I Need to Have a Tooth Removed?

Non-restorable teeth may include those with large cracks or decay, broken roots or if there is advanced gum disease in that location. It may not be possible to place a filling or crown over the tooth if there is too much structural damage. However, if the tooth can be preserved with a root canal, that may be the best – and most affordable – option in the long run.

Ensuring Your Safety

Our dentist will always take special precautions to ensure your safety. For instance, we will carefully review your current list of medications to ensure that no special care is required. We will also take an X-ray of the tooth to identify any associated needs, such as complex extractions or atypical root anatomy.

What to Expect

When we get you booked in, we’ll apply some relaxing gel around the area immediately next to your tooth. Then we use an anaesthetic to numb the tooth. After we’ve made sure that you’re comfortable, the tooth is taken out and the area is tended to.

Our staff will provide you with after-care instructions, such as what to expect, what to eat and what not to eat in the days following.

Most of our patients feel fine within a few hours. We’ll arrange to have you back in 10-14 days to re-assess the extraction site at no extra charge.
